Hamamachi Elementary School, which I went through 2nd grader to 6th grader,
had a 1 night 2 days field trip to Beppu, famous for its hot springs when I was a 6th grader.
I was afraid of taking a hot spring bath with my class mates.
I have big scars on both sides of my lower stomach, because of the Hernia surgeries.
Well, I started period when I was 5th grader, and I got it during those days.
So I had to wait for everybody take the bath, and then I could take it by myself.
We could bring our parents on the trip too.
My family worried about me because I get motion sickness so easily.
But my mother couldn't take days off from her work, so my grandmother came with me.
In a bus, everybody had to sing a song when the microphone came to you.
I had a husky voice, and didn't sound like a young girl.
So I was so embarrassed to sing a song.
I was hesitating for a while, then my grandmother said,
"why don't we sing 'Akatonbo ( means red dragonfly, famous children's song)"
She started to sing it by herself.
She was not good singer at all.
But her song made me almost cry.
It was soft and kind voice.
When I was a 9th grader at Seiryo Junior High School,
we went on a 3 night 4day trip to Kyoto and Osaka.
Again, I got period, and had a miserable trip.
There were so many tourists from foreign countries in both Kyoto and Osaka.
And some Japanese people were talking to them in English.
It was amazing.
It was like a cultural shock to me that so many people could speak English.
I felt like I was so small.
Well I am writing this blog in sequence by year.
But I am talking about the field trip,
so I will skip to the era of High School, and talk about the trip.
I went to Wakamatsu Commercial High School.
We went on a 5 night 6 day trip to Tokyo, Nagano, Toyama and Aichi.
As far as I remember, I always got a period when I went on a trip.
It was my first trip to Tokyo.
I was overwhemed by so many people, so many cars, and so many tall buildings in Tokyo.
I had 7 close friends in my class, who always did everything together.
So 8 of those 17 year old girls got their courage together and got on the train on Yamanote Line.
We went to Shinjuku. But we were too scared to explore Tokyo in the night.
So we stayed the area by the train station, and went to the department store there.
When we finished the shopping, which we didn't enjoy much,
we took the path back to the Hotel.
What a relief! We made it through the first night in Tokyo.
The night in Tokyo was like a brighte light to me.
I thought "the world is so huge, and I am so small.
What can I do in this world?"
Oh, well. I am 53 years old now, and didn't do anything to the world.
The first picture is when I was a 6th grader.
I was 6th from the left in the back row.
( I was next to Mr Ueno who wore the glasses)
My grandmother was 5th from the right in back row.
The second picture is when I was a 9th grader.
In front of Osaka Castle.
I was 4th from left in 2nd row wearing pigtails.
My class room teacher was Mr Nakamichi.
My principle Mr Yamagata was in this picture, too.
The third picture is when I was 11th grader.
In front of Meiji Village.
I was 6th from right in 2nd row.
My class room teacher was Mr Tada.
