船の生活 / Life on the Boat.

私の父は北九州市若松区にある鶴丸海運という会社の船の船長でした。
船には居住エリアがありほとんどの船長は家族と一緒に船で生活していました。
台所やお風呂 もあり水は大きなタンクに貯めたものを使い、
電気はないので明かりはランプを使い、料理はプロパン・ガスを使っていました。
写真の船の記憶はありませんが、その後鉄筋で出来た船で生活した事は覚えています。
左が私で右が妹厚美です。
その時代、日本は好景気で父も普通のサラリーマンの2倍のお給料をもらっていました。
それをしっかり貯めれば家を買っておか（陸）にあがれたのですが
私は小学校に入るまでそのように船で生活しました。
鶴丸海運や他の会社は共同で「児童ホーム」と言う施設を作り
船上生活者たちの学童を集め寮生活をさせて学校に通わせていました。

My father was a captain of a small boat that a marine transportation company owned.
In those days most of captains lived with their families on their boats.
There were living quarters on each boat.
We had a kitchen, a bathroom, and living room.
We used the water from a big tank, used oil lamp for the lights, and propane gas for cooking.
I don't remember anything about this wooden boat,
but I remember that we also lived on a boat made of steel.
I am on the left in this picture and the other girl is my sister.
It was a prosperous era in Japan, and my father was making twice as much  as other people.
If he saved that money, we could have bought a house and live on the land.
But I lived on the boat like this until I started to go to school.
Several companies put money together and built the dorm for the children of the boat people.
So they could go to school everyday.
