その年はじめて子供たちは
日本の学校を体験入学しました。
その様子はこれより１つ前のブログで紹介しました。
もう一つ特別だったのは
その年はじめて親子４人がずっと一緒に行動できない旅でした。
デイブが仕事を３週間しか休めないのに
私たち３人は６週間日本に滞在しました。
デイブには本当に申し訳ない夏でした。
日本に着いてまず１週間は
大分から出てきていた両親と一緒に
妹宅、祖母宅に滞在して北九州で過ごしました。
それから両親と一緒に大分県日出市にある
ハーモニーランドへ遊びに行きその後
佐伯に向かいました。
デイブはそこでのんびりした後
一人先に帰国しました。
私たち３人は子供たちが１ヶ月学校に通ったので
ずっと両親の家にいました。
そして最後の１週間はまた北九州に戻り
皆とお別れして帰国しました。
１枚目は日本に着いてすぐ。
若松の祖母と一緒に門司の道子叔母ちゃんを訪ねて
門司のレトロを回り中華料理のレストランで食事しました。
２枚目は高校時代の恩師塚本先生と奥様、
その少し前にアメリカに私たちを訪問してくれた
娘さんとお友達が若松に来てくださり
先生とは２３年ぶりの再会でした。
３枚目は小倉の街で。
叔母の重美姉ちゃんと啓子 姉ちゃんと
一緒にレストランでランチ。
４枚目は大分県日出市のハーモニーランドで。
当時我が家ではHard Rock Cafe ではなくて
Planet Hollywood が人気で
いろんな街のＴシャツを買っていました。
４人おそろいです。
５枚目は同じくハーモニーランドで。
恵はキティーちゃんと手をつないで大喜びでした。
６枚目は大分の両親の家で。
７枚目は佐伯駅で。
しばらくお父さんとお別れで
恵は泣きました。
デイブはお土産がぎっしり詰まった
大きなスーツケースを２個も下げて
一人アメリカに帰りました。
８枚目は同じく両親の家で。
私たちの滞在に合わせて
妹家族がやって来て大騒ぎでした。
賢と恵は従兄弟と遊べて楽しい時を過ごしました。
９枚目は北九州に戻って
いつもの赤提灯で夕食。
It was a special trip to go back to Japan in 1999.
Ken and Kay had a special experience in
Japanese school that summer.
I already wrote the article about it in my last blog.
There was another reason it was special.
Dave could take vacation for just 3 weeks,
but our plan was staying for 6 weeks.
So he had to go home all by himself after 3 weeks.
It was a miserable summer for him.
When we got there, we stayed at my sister's home and my grandmother's home
with my parents who came to Kitakyushu to meet us for a week.
Then my parents took us Harmonyland in Hiji, Oita.
After we had a fun time with "Hello Kitty",
we went to my parents' home to relax.
Then children started to go to school.
A week later Dave had to go home by himself.
After children finished the school,
we went to back to Kitakyushu, and stayed there for a week,
and came home to America.
The first picture was right after we got to Japan.
We visited my aunt Michiko in Moji
with my grandmother.
We went sightseeing in Moji Retro Town,
and then we had lunch at a Chinese restaurant.
The second picture was when we met
my High school teacher Mr. Tsukamoto and his family.
His daughter and her friend came to visit us
in America a short time before this.
It had been 23 years since last time I saw him.
The third picture was at the restaurant in Kokura
with my aunt Shigemi and aunt Keiko.
The fourth picture was at Harmonyland in Hiji, Oita.
In those days, my family liked to collect the T-shirts from
Planet Hollywood, not Hard Rock Cafe yet.
All of them were wearing matching shirts.
The fifth picture was again, at Harmonyland.
Kay was so happy to hold hands with 'Hello Kitty".
The sixth picture was at my parents' family room.
We just finished our lunch.
The seventh picture was at Saiki Train Station.
Kay was so sad that she had to say "good bye" to her dad.
I asked Dave to take 2 huge suitscases packed
with souvenirs for friends in America.
The eighth picture was at my parents' home.
My sister's family came to visit us at parents' home.
So the cousins could hang out with each other.
Ken and Kay were so happy to be with them.
The ninth picture was at our favorite restaurant
"Akachouchin" in Wakamatsu.
We went back toKitakyushu before we came home to America.
